THE WATERCOLOUR ACADEMY IS NOW LIVE!

MODULE 1 - FOUNDATIONS

The Watercolour Foundations Module is the most important course in the Watercolour Academy. It will teach you essential techniques that apply to any subject matter you choose to paint...

MODULE 2 - LANDSCAPES

The Watercolour Landscapes Module shows you how to tackle the most common elements that make up a classic landscape painting - skies, trees, water, mountains and textures like rock, wood and stone...

MODULE 3 - STILL LIFE

Painting from life is challenging. It's also very uplifting when you get it right! The Watercolour Still Life Module is designed to enhance your observational skills, as well as adding to the repertoire of textures and effects you can render...

MODULE 4 - LOOSENING UP

Unlike oils and acrylics, it's difficult to correct mistakes in watercolour. This leads to fear in a lot of amateurs, and their paintings can become rigid, flat and insipid as a result. In this Module you'll discover how to let the paint do the work...

MODULE 5 - FLORALS

Much more than just a course on painting pretty plants, the Florals Module demands that you to get bold with colour and tone. It's designed to strengthen your colour mixing, blending and bleeding skills - essential to get the most from watercolours...

MODULE 6 - ANIMALS

The Animals Module is an intermediate to advanced course that requires solid watercolour skills that you'll have built in previous modules. Unlike other Modules, this course focuses purely on full paintings - portraits of 8 different animals...

MODULE 7 - FIGURES

The human form is one of the most difficult, yet most alluring subjects to capture. In this Module, we'll deconstruct the figure helping you to tackle it as a whole. Lessons cover contouring the head, torso and limbs as well as clothing and backgrounds...

MODULE 8 - PORTRAITS

This is our most advanced watercolour course and once you're able to paint realistic portraits, there's no subject matter beyond you! Learn how to mix flesh tones, create contour and form and tackle difficult features like the mouth, eyes and hair...

    1. I do cityscapes and would be happy to share, lynn

    2. We don't cover cityscapes. We'll be adding to the Academy on a regular basis and this will come from student requests. So cityscapes is noted and I'll see if we can find an expert who specialises in this subject (I have a couple in mind)

  5. Hello....I am looking forward to your lessons as I already learned much from your Watercolor Secrets volume 1 & 2 and have ordered another DVD on seascapes. Unfortunately, I'm in the throws of moving and am wondering if you'll be scheduling another time frame for these lessons? Thanks for sharing your talent.

    1. Yes we will be. We'll have to cap the number of students with this first major launch but only to make sure the system holds up and doens't slow down for anyone.

  7. Hi Bob, I hate to be picky but didn't you say July 1? At the top of this it says April 1. Just saying that you might want to change that. Otherwise, I'm excited to start also.

  9. Looks great! I'm interested in cityscapes as well. I'm also curious why there's no lesson on adding people to landscapes. That was one of my favorite parts of your e-book, and I was hoping for more help on adding simple human forms to landscapes.

    1. You don't have to choose Gracieia. The way we've set it up, you can access them all. Or you can cherry pick lessons from each of them.

  11. I have been following your watercolor stuff for ages and has learned a lot before painting stroke. I think Iam old enough to have developed a great sense of judgementand iI say your water color classes are tops and after I get certification in WC I plan to work in oils.
I am not as impressedwith acrylics-guess they are too modern.

    1. Hi Amy, thank you for your kind words. I don't mind acrylics personally but do prefer oils - they just feel more authentic somehow. I don't want to overwhelm people with what they get access to, but we've also created quite a few oils and acrlyics lessons as well (which all come under the one membership).

    1. Bob has replied to the question elsewhere in this blog as follows:

Lessons are streamed from our membership site and not downloaded. If lessons were a one off download we'd have to charge 4-5 times the price we do (for example Craftsy and Artists Network charge between $29-$39 (£20-30) PER LESSON DOWNLOAD and one of their lessons is the equivalent to just one section in just one of our modules... about 1/80th of what you're getting. We're running the Academy in the same way that Netflix and Spotify do - you get access to everything, anytime, whilst you're a member.

We never take lessons down so you can access them at anytime in the future and we add more on a regular basis and there's no extra charges for any of these (again like Netflix).

We could have offered each module as a one off download but to cover costs and royalties the price would have to be in line with other courses - at least $100 per module. We've chosen the online streaming model because the one barrier that I've heard the most of the years was the upfront cost of buying Watercolour Secrets.

  13. How long is it likely to take the average beginner, with reasonable spare time, to complete all the modules?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I really ouldn't like to hazard a guess. It's just so open ended and depends on your spare time, how many of the exercises you choose to complete, how quickly you like to work through things, and so on. There's no requirement for you to complete every Module - you might have no interest in painting portriats for example.

  14. will these modules be available for download so that we can refresh our lessons even after we've fined the set

  15. Looking forward to the launch and hope that in the future one of the modules will be about buildings and architecture, hope all goes well and its wonderful that in todays world we have got such a useful tool for our art projects where we can learn as we go along.

    1. Barbara, I am undoubtedly biased, but I genuinely believe there is no better, more cost effective way to improve your art. It lot of thought, from a lot of different experts has gone into the design of the Academy and the exercises. We've tested it with over one thousand art students and while it's still too early to say what level of impact it's having, the feedback has been terrific.

  18. You may have answered this before but I am wondering if this can be charged to pay pal or a credit card. If not, how are we to pay? Louisa

  19. I thought that I already did this back on 7-18-14 through Pay Pal in the amount of $74.00 Now I am not sure what this was for??

  20. Is there a way to view photos of the animals that are to be painted in that module?

    ReplyDelete
  21. So let me get this right...
If I were superwoman and was able to go through each module and every lesson in one month then all I pay is $14.95? In two months under $30? I can stop and re-start at any time? I can re-do module 4 lesson 5 as many times as I want?
    Really?
